Come and experience the incredible combination of being in the middle of nowhere and close to everything. Peaceful, calm and quiet in our ‘off the beaten track’ location we are also close to some of the most beautiful spots in England. The Lake District fells, the Silverdale and Arnside AONB and the Yorkshire Dales are waiting for you. Bathe in nature’s serenity before embracing all it has to offer.

We pride ourselves on providing a real ‘home from home’ experience and this starts at the very beginning. From your first interaction with us we are here to make your life easy, help things flow seamlessly and answer any questions. We are always on hand to make your experience a great one.
The little things
Often it’s the little things, those lovely unexpected touches and frequently forgotten details that we remember and cherish. To our minds, holidays are all about these little things and secret smiles so expect to be surprised and delighted throughout your stay. Plus, we have lots of ‘little extras’, sourced from local providers, that you can add when you book including breakfast packs, BBQ packs, fizz, fresh eggs from our own free-range poultry, flowers and firewood. And if you’re here celebrating something special please do let us know and we’ll do what we can to add a little magic.
Lose yourself in the wonders of the natural world
Enjoy an abundance of wildlife both here at Brackenthwaite and at some special local attractions. From here you may see springtime lambs, wild deer and sparrowhawks hunting from the skies above. In summer you can watch darting swallows and in the evenings during Autumn passing murmurations from hundreds of starlings preparing to roost. If that’s not enough, the fantastic RSPB Leighton Moss Nature Reserve and Gait Barrows National Nature Reserve are both an incredible 5 minutes away by car.

No doubt you’re here to indulge in some well-deserved rest and relaxation, make some memories and enjoy a bit of luxury so let’s set the mood, create some ambience and make your experience a truly magical one. With firepits, BBQs and wood burners available depending on which property you choose we’ve got you covered to do just this! Hot chocolate in front of the wood burner, alfresco dining courtesy of the charcoal-fired BBQ or toasted marshmallows over the firepit whilst looking out for shooting stars – the choice is yours.
A special experience in the most stunning location
Brackenthwaite sits snug in the most incredible landscape and within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with spectacular views in almost every direction. Breathe in our unique 9-acre oasis and remember you’ll be treated to a ‘mini-farm’ experience too. We may not be a working farm but you can expect to wake up to friendly runner ducks, hens, geese, 3 pet sheep (Maary, Baabara and her twin sister Dolly) and our resident white doves.
Clean, comfortable and fully equipped
The last thing you need on holiday is to find the basics aren’t covered which is why we hold ourselves to extremely high standards when it comes to cleanliness and comfort. Sink into luxurious sofas in front of the fire, enjoy a fantastic night’s sleep on our amazingly comfortable beds (check out the reviews) and don’t worry you won’t be rooting around for matches or bottle openers as we keep our cottages full of everything you could possibly need. We promise you won’t want to leave.

Looking for a holiday cottage where your dog is as welcome as you are? Look no further. You and your furry friends can look forward to enclosed fields for off lead play, no extra charge, doggy welcome packs (and human ones – don’t worry we haven’t forgotten you), beautiful walks and lots of ‘dog-friendly’ recommendations.
