Historically used as a barn for storing animal feed and provisions, and housing livestock during winter months, this cottage and its adjacent neighbour – Corner Cottage – were converted in the 1980s from what had become unused barn space. Upgraded in 2022, The Coach House is an impressive holiday property that can accommodate up to 6 people. It is built from local limestone beautifully complimented by a natural slate roof.

Quality and high levels of comfort are immediately apparent and you’ll find that the space has been used imaginatively so that even with six adults staying here there’s still plenty of space for everyone to feel comfortable.

As you enter you’ll be greeted with a modern open plan lounge, kitchen and dining area. The hub of the house with a traditional Lakeland feel, this area is great for those late nights catching up, playing games and generally enjoying each other’s company. The kitchen is fully equipped and you can relax on luxurious sofas and chairs with a Smart TV ready to host movie night or hook up to your own gaming machine.

Up one level are the double and twin bedrooms with the shared family bathroom, and up a few more steps to the top floor is the spacious super king master bedroom that can also be a second twin bedroom by request. This master bedroom also benefits from its own smart TV and additional seating. Each bedroom has hanging and storage space for you to unpack and help you get settled in.

The property is accessed via the courtyard that also doubles up as your semi-private outdoor seating and play area. This is also where your allocated parking area is – perfectly situated so that it’s quick and easy to go from car to property and back again with any bags, children, or dogs. While sitting out al fresco with your morning coffee or making use of the charcoal-fired BBQ one evening with friends, the courtyard offers you a view of the old stable block, some rustic charm, and a big splash of colour and life from the many stone troughs, hanging baskets and planters of seasonal blooms. From dusk this area is lit by solar powered string lights that frame the courtyard and make continued time outdoors more enjoyable.

From April to October we are also home to visiting swallows that nest at Brackenthwaite and raise their young. It’s easy to while away time watching the parents-to-be collect twigs to build their nests or fly low catching insects to feed off as the evening sets in.
