A GREAT CELEBRATION
Brackenthwaite Farm is a fabulous place to stay and use as a base for exploring the many sights of the local area. While many people visit for some relaxation within an abundance of nature and rural charm, others are drawn to us because of our proximity to destinations including Lake Windermere in The Lake District, the Historic City of Lancaster, and Morecambe Bay with its spectacular views.
Oftentimes, bookings are for individual self-catering holiday properties on our small, family-run farm. But for other occasions where people want something extra special to celebrate a significant life event, we believe we have just the thing!

The Long Barn
For your main event, you might want to make full use of The Long Barn. Located in The Courtyard, The Long Barn offers an indoor-outdoor option where you can guarantee you’ll have an incredible celebration no mater what the weather does to us!
- Rustic open-plan barn conversion (108 m²)
- Grand open fireplace
- Comfortably accommodates up to 60 people
- Can be styled for formal, informal, or casual environments
- Includes a wood burning oven for extra warmth and/or a small-scale cooking novelty experience
- Opens onto the Courtyard
The CourtYard
The Courtyard is a large, central square that also provides access to The Coach House and Corner Cottage holiday properties, and our five stables.
- Creates outdoor overflow space to The Long Barn
- Can accommodate a marquee
- Enclosed, safe and secure for children and/or dogs
- Can comfortably accommodate up to 100 people
- Picnic tables, BBQs, and chimineas readily available for casual use
- A great space for entertainment
The ORCHARD
Set a short distance from The Courtyard is our Orchard which, in addition to a variety of fruit trees where you might grab yourself a complementary apple, pear, or plum if you fancy one, is where you may freely exercise your dogs and children!
- 2 ½ acres of fully enclosed and secure field
- Contains a variety of fruit trees with easy picking permitted
- Dedicated doggy exercise space with throwers, balls, and toys to entertain.
- A dedicated children’s play area space with trampoline and climbing frame.
- A ‘chill out zone’ with its own treeswing hanging from the branch of a great oak tree.
- An in-ground firepit with tree trunk seating surround.
- Picnic bench and other seating for casual use
- A hammock to lie in for a quiet moment
The Orchard can be used as a large formal environment with a marquee, if required.
THe Rose Garden
Just off to one side of The Orchard is The Rose Garden, which is a super little spot to sit and relax among a bounty of scent and colour.
- Garden seating with an abundance of colour and interest, and over 30 different rose bushes.
- Contains the hand-built cobb pizza oven for a fun cooking experience and al fresco dining.
- Can be enclosed for children and dogs.
A great place to be to enjoy the setting sun.
AROUND THE FARM
The farm is surrounded by around ten acres of private land, and if you enjoy a stroll through a rural setting, there is a circuit walk of about a mile that takes in some of the main points of interest identified above as well as some new ones.
- The wildlife area rests adjacent to Leighton Beck. It contains some ponds and scrapes as a water source for a variety of visiting wildlife.
- A bee hive is centrally located, but also out of the way enough to not cause nuisance to people or animals. The bees work hard to collect lots of pollen from all the trees, plants, and flowers we’ve introduced for them. Gotta save the bees!
- We have two new enclosed woodland areas in the largest of our fields. This field we leave alone to grow, and we hope it will return to being a wildflower meadow soon. In time, the trees will create new shelter, food, and safety for even more wildlife.
- About the farm you can also meet our resident animals. Our sheep, goats, and kune kune pigs are all friendly, and love to interact with people (especially if you have food!). Then there are our free-range hens, ducks, geese, and Tina Turkey. We feed them all twice each day and you’re always welcome to join in and share the experience.
