The areas of North Lancashire, South Cumbria, and West Yorkshire aren’t known for offering visitors guaranteed sunshine and California summers, but let’s be fair, the weather and climate here does make the already striking surroundings lush and green, and the water for the lakes in The Lake District does need to come from somewhere, right?!

While we love outdoor adventures and taking in breathtaking views, we also understand the importance of indoor days. Our four self-catering properties offer the perfect base to relax with comfortable facilities and a warm atmosphere. In each of them you might like to enjoy a book in the living area, sit back with some Netflix entertainment, or take a long soak in the bath.
But that might not be anything outside of the ordinary, so how about getting cosy in the Long Barn in front of the wood burning oven, maybe putting a pizza in for the family to enjoy together. While you’re there, have a round of darts of a table tennis competition or two. Here, you will also find a music system for playing your favourite tunes as well as other family-fun games like Jenga, mini puzzles, and more.
Explore the World of Wildlife at Lakeland Wildlife Oasis
For a family-friendly indoor activity, visit Lakeland Wildlife Oasis, just round the corner from your holiday property at Brackenthwaite Farm. It’s a wonderful spot to see exotic animals from around the world, and the indoor tropical rainforest exhibit is both educational and fun for children.
Immerse yourself in the Downtown Abbey style surroundings of Leighton Hall
Leighton Hall is the historic family home of the famous Gillow furniture making family. With over 800 years of history, explore the magnificent surroundings within the hall, its objets d’art, and wonderfully rich heritage, then stop off for a quick bite in the tearoom and a quick look around the gift shop and plant stall.
Discover The Historic City of Lancaster
Within an easy thirty-minute drive from the farm, Lancaster offers a variety of indoor activities. Visit Lancaster Castle for a fascinating and sometimes chilling 1,000-year history tour. You can also enjoy a visit to the Lancaster Priory which is adjacent to the castle. Have a wander around to learn about the Priory itself or time it to attend a service or awe-inspiring concert. Other Lancaster attractions include The Butterfly House at Williamson’s Park, Lancaster Maritime Museum, Judges’ Lodgings Museum, and the Lancaster City Museum, indoor climbing at Lancaster Wall, or the Lancaster Escape Rooms for ‘The Crystal Maze’ styled fun.
