Every dog that arrives at Brackenthwaite receives their own welcome pack – a thoughtful collection of towels, treats, poo bags, a water bowl, toys, and even a dog tag with the farm’s details in case your adventurous pup decides to explore further than intended. But the real star of the show is the field. Two and a half acres, fully enclosed, secure, and entirely dedicated to off-lead exercise and play. Balls and throwers are provided. Coastal stretches with salt air and the sound of the tide. The Arnside and Silverdale area is remarkably welcoming to dogs too. Most local pubs, cafés, and even many shops roll out the welcome mat for dogs – so your pup can join you for a post-walk pint at a proper country pub or a slice of cake in a lovely Arnside café without any awkward negotiations at the door.
And if the Lake District is calling, you’re perfectly placed. Bowness-on-Windermere, Ambleside, and the fells beyond are all within easy reach for a day trip — wide open spaces and mountain air that dogs and their owners tend to find equally restorative.

The four self-catering cottages at Brackenthwaite are contemporary, beautifully finished, and genuinely comfortable — sleeping between two and six people, making them equally suited to a couple escaping for a long weekend with their Dachshund or a family holiday with a larger, bouncier companion. Everything is set up to feel like a home rather than a rental: well-equipped kitchens, comfortable living spaces, and an attention to detail that regular cottage-goers will notice immediately.
The farm setting adds something most holiday properties simply can’t offer: resident hens, ducks, pigs, goats, sheep – and now also alpacas – to entertain curious humans and curious dogs alike. And with our own stables and paddocks, horse-owners can also bring their horses on holiday. (Dogs are kept on leads when moving around the main farm yard, which is both considerate and sensible.)
